Connecting schools and colleges with businesses

Telford & Wrekin Council is making it easier for schools and colleges to connect with local businesses to better prepare their students for the world of work with a new web portal.

The portal has been created in direct response to businesses stating that they want to work more closely with schools and colleges but there was no mechanism in which to enable this to happen.  Equally schools and colleges were telling us that they wanted to create greater links with business but they had no way of reaching out to the wider business community and did not know what support businesses were able to offer.

In order for Telford and Wrekin to grow and prosper as a town we need to support our local people to gain the skills and qualifications that are needed by local employers.  One way of doing this is providing a mechanism for businesses to engage directly with students and teachers.

Businesses can log onto the portal and pledge their support in schools and colleges for a variety of activities, from talks in assemblies, careers fairs to work placement opportunities.  Educators will then be able to see adverts posted by employers and request their support.  The portal is not open to the public and all contact information is protected until organisations agree to connect.  .

Any businesses wanting to offer their support are invited to register.

Please contact kim.hodgetts@telford.gov.uk if you have any queries relating to the portal or the programme.
