Finance and funding

There are numerous grant and support options available to Telford companies to assist with their development.

There are business support advisors to help you through the process of applying for funding from start to finish. Come and discuss your expansion plans with us and we will find the right grant for you (eligibility criteria will apply)

The following is a brief summary of a number of key support options:

Business Growth Programme (BGP) aims to support supply chains, innovation and expansion by offering grant support of £10,000 to £167,000 (eligibility criteria applies) to existing business-to-business small to medium enterprises who are ready to invest, grow and create jobs.

BGP comprises 4 funds:

  • Business Development to support expansion, relocation and improve access to markets.
  • Business Innovation to support “close to market” products and services.
  • Green Bridge targets existing supply chain companies operating in, or expanding into the green economy, demonstrating quantifiable green benefits (energy efficiency, waste management, recycling and renewables).
  • High Speed 2 targets existing supply chain companies, which have, or are in the process of securing, or have the ability to secure a contract for HS2.

The funds, subject to eligibility criteria, can support a range of capital and revenue expenditure.

Other grants available

  • Business Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP) could help identify significant savings in energy use – a major business expense. The scheme offers an initial assessment of equipment, premises, processes and performance to improve energy efficiency and help reduce carbon emissions. Furthermore, you may be able to access grant funding (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Wolverhampton University’s Innovative Product Support Service (IPSS) provides SMEs with technical and commercial reviews of their innovative products and processes (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Wolverhampton University’s Built Environment Climate Change Innovations (BECCI) seeks to take products to market by getting new technology or innovations in to houses through access to workshops, knowledge transfer, product development planning, mentoring, knowledge transfer etc (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Marches Building Investment Grant – provides capital grants to businesses ranging from £4,500 to £100,000 to refurbish, reconfigure and extend commercial premises in the Marches LEP area. Grant assistance is also offered to qualifying landlords and tenants wishing to bring redundant buildings back into economic use (eligibility criteria applies)
  • The Marches Broadband Grant - grants are available between £7,000 and £25,000 to pay for bespoke solutions that will allow businesses to benefit from superfast fibre broadband connection (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Marches Coaching & Mentoring Programme FREE support for individuals who want to start their own business, for new and established SMEs who wish to improve performance, and also for growing businesses. This fund has been designed locally in order to address the specialist needs.

The Growth Hub, Telford & Wrekin

The Marches Growth Hub Telford & Wrekin is your ‘one stop shop’ for support. Funded by Telford & Wrekin Council, The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership and the University of Wolverhampton it is located at the university’s Telford Innovation Campus, Priorslee.

As well as being home to our business support services the Growth Hub building also offers local business facilities which include:

The Visualisation Centre (capacity 25-35)

  • Fully air conditioned suite.
  • Video wall with Windows 7 and Office 2010.
  • 3 x interactive communication zone PCs.
  • 2 x interactive smart-boards.
  • Lectern lighting control.
  • An immersive zone of 3 large screens.

Board Room (capacity 8)

  • The boardroom includes a smart-board and access to mobile.
  • Touch table.

Meeting Pod (capacity 6)

  • The meeting room includes a white wall for projection.
